List of Ongoing Clinical Trials: Patient Summary

S0226
Phase III Randomized Trial of Anastrozole Verses Anastrozole and Fulvestrant as First Line Therapy for Post Menopausal Women with Metastatic Breast Cancer

Summary
The purpose of this study is to find out what effects (good or bad) the combination of hormonal agents anastrozole and fulvestrant have over anastrozole alone on patients with breast cancer. Both drugs are approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer. However, it is the combination of the two drugs that is considered experimental.

As part of this study, researchers would also like to do laboratory testing on tissue samples and blood samples to find out as much as possible about breast cancer and how this treatment might affect the disease. They would also like to use the tissue and blood to find out about other cancers or other diseases. At the end of this form, patients may choose to allow some excess tissue from their tumor and blood to be kept and used for research purpose.
