CRCH Membership Criteria

Membership Application

Investigators who desire to become members of the Cancer Research Center of Hawai‘i (CRCH) must submit a letter of application to the CRCH Director describing their research interests and how they are relevant to the field of cancer research in general, as well as to the mission of the CRCH. Applicants should attach a current C.V., as well as a list of their current extramural awards. The CRCH’s Departmental Personnel Committee (DPC) reviews applications and makes recommendations regarding appointments and classifications of proposed members to the CRCH Director. The DPC and program directors will also review existing members every two years to determine if the appointments and classifications are valid. The authority to officially appoint a member to the CRCH rests with its Director. Benefits of Center membership include eligibility to compete for CRCH developmental funds, as well as pre- and postdoctoral stipends, and access to CRCH shared resources. Expectations of Center Members include participation in CRCH seminars, retreats, fund-raising events, site visits, and committee assignments (e.g. search committees, review committees). It is also expected that Center Members will contribute substantively to the research mission of the Center as evidenced by publication of articles and the receipt of grants in cancer-related areas. It is assumed that all Center Members are actively engaged in either cancer research and/or cancer care under the auspices of the Cancer Research Center and possess a strong record of achievement in these areas.

Appointments Types Are:

Research
A research member is a faculty member of the University of Hawai‘i or employee of the CRCH consortium partners who is actively engaged in nationally funded, peer-reviewed basic or clinical cancer research. Research members are expected to have current cancer research grant funding. All faculty members with their primary academic appointment at CRCH that meet the aforementioned criteria are automatically research members. In addition, faculty members who are actively seeking funding may be classified as research members upon recommendation of their program director and approval of the CRCH Director.

Collaborative
A collaborative member is a faculty member of the University of Hawai‘i or employee of the CRCH consortium partners who is actively engaged in nationally peer-reviewed cancer research. All faculty members with their primary academic appointment at CRCH that are actively engaged in nationally peer-reviewed cancer research, but who do not have or are not seeking grant funding are automatically collaborative members.

Clinical
A clinical member is a community clinician who is actively engaged in clinical cancer research.
