Hawai‘i Tumor Registry to Launch "Sharing ‘Ohana" Study to Learn How Lifestyles and Genes Influence Development and Survival of Cancer in Hawai‘i's People

Dr. Marc GoodmanThe Hawai‘i Tumor Registry (HTR), jointly operated by the University of Hawai'i's Cancer Research Center of Hawai‘i and the Hawai‘i State Department of Health (DOH), has announced that it will officially launch the Sharing ‘Ohana study. This study will gather data on lifestyle and genetics from 1,500 individuals recently diagnosed with cancer in the State of Hawai‘i. The collection of such cancer risk data will enhance the ability of the HTR and other health-related agencies and organizations to monitor cancer trends and determine ways in which these risk factors influence cancer rates in the state. This project will complement existing efforts by the DOH for statewide comprehensive cancer control in Hawai‘i.
