Dr. Murphy Receives National Dietary Award
(Winter 2005)Congratulations to Dr. Suzanne Murphy, the Cancer Center’s Director for Nutrition Support Shared Resource, who received the Excellence in Dietary Guidance Award at the 132nd Annual Meeting of the American Public Health Association (APHA) on November 7, 2004 in Washington, D.C. Sponsored by the Product for Better Health and the APHA’s Food and Nutrition Section, this national distinction celebrates individuals who have made world-class contributions in dietary guidance formulation, research, education, implementation and/or policy change.
Dr. Murphy received a plaque and a $500 cash award, which she immediately donated to the Doris Calloway Memorial Fund at the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Calloway had served as Dr. Murphy’s mentor during her doctoral studies at Berkeley.
Dr. Murphy has served as a researcher and professor in the Epidemiology Program at the Cancer Research Center since 1999. Her research interests extend to a wide array of human nutrition issues. Most recently, she has begun a research study to identify better ways of measuring dietary supplement intakes of subjects in studies of diet and cancer.
